This salmon-pink lilly with is another showy favorite. Gee, I seem to love all these “wow!” flowers – maybe that does begin to say something about my personality, eh?

These are very old-fashioned double day lillies in a fabulous shade of orange. They were left by the prior owner and we haven’t touched them. And they have such long stems, maybe 3-4′ or more!

Happy 888 day! Oh, this one is another whore for color and smell, isn’t she? But stunning, oh so stunning in the garden. We’ve never grown Stargazer lillies before, though we have often enjoyed them purchased. The heady perfume and riot of color, it’s something of a mardi gras in bloom, isn’t it?

This is a wine red lily (it’s darker in person) with the neck that changes abruptly to bright yellow, then fades into chartreuse at the bottom. Isn’t it just gorgeous?!

For my birthday (yes, I turn 43 today!), I have been saving up one of my favorite pictures. It is of an absolutely stunning peony that was growing in H’s cousin’s garden at her house in Lutsen. The color is just knock-your-socks-off, dontchathink?

It is a little out of focus, but I’m sharing it anyway. It’s one of the sweet little wild roses that are found growing along the side of the road as you go up the hill to the house in Lutsen. The color and the simplicity are what is so marvelous about this flower.

I was smitted with these pinwheel phlox blooms the moment I laid eyes on them. This is their second year and they are doing very, very well. They strike me as a very sweet and old-fashioned looking plant.

Gorgeous red lily, ain’t it?

This is close relative to the hollyhock, a French mallow. Actually, we planted this plant the first spring we were in our house. It bloomed profusely and then went to seed. We thought nothing of it until the next year when mallow plants were absolutely everywhere! We’ve been trying to get rid of them ever since. But this hardy plant came from a seed two years old and we decided to let it grow. Probably a mistake, but for now you must admit it’s lovely.

If you know me, you know that hollyhocks are amongst my most favorite flowers, and this double ruffled pink one is, well, just look at it will you?!
